In the late evening poetry

Once there was a maple tree

In the western woods of Westphalia

It proved freedom and life to the local Austrian children

Who played in its branches

and swallowed its leaves

But one day, the axe just fell.

Though, don’t worry—

it made a very nice kitchen table.
